  • You have every intention of executing on that strategy.
  • You are busy, markets shift constantly, and your teams can get distracted.
Strategy to Outcomes Flowchart

16% Greater Chance of leading your industry with a strong prioritization and alignment methodology. (IPM)

40% More Successful projects and initiatives with engaged executive sponsorship (PMI)

In our previous posts (linked below) we’ve shown simple tools to help ensure the company initiatives line up to your strategy (MODA) and how to evaluate priorities between your initiatives (Value Based Scoring).

Industry Wide, Projects Struggle

  • Project Overload Concept 56% LESS Value than anticipated coming from most projects (McKinsey)
  • 45% Budget Overruns on large IT projects (McKinsey)
  • 69% “Failure” Rate of IT projects overall (Standish)

We owe it to ourselves, our company, and our teams to lead with priorities and block out the noise.

Communication is Key

It’s not enough to select the right things and prioritize them one time. We need to make it a focus of our efforts. Use your prioritized initiatives:

  • In meetings: Schedule conversations on the priorities, not the other noise Operationalizing Strategic Priorities
  • In reporting: Look at the metrics, progress, and problems in the prioritized order
  • In updates: As you share info back to your team

Use practical tools to evaluate changes and make sure they align. Priorities shift and that’s a good thing. It’s nimble, agile, and effective. When they shift, communicate the what and why to the team and pay attention to what should be de-prioritized.

It will make the difference in your business.
